It’s not quite spring yet, but February is still a great time to get out in the fresh air and enjoy a refreshing nature walk. With that in mind, dogs and their owners are welcome to join a mid-winter hike hosted by the Great Swamp Watershed Association on Saturday, February 16 from 1 to 3 pm. It takes place at the Conservation Management Area located at 83 Tiger Lily Lane in Harding Township.
Dog owners are asked to keep their four-legged friends on a leash during the hike and bring water and clean up bags. There is a limit of 15 dogs (but no limit on humans).
This event is free for Great Swamp Watershed Association members and the suggested donation for non-members is $10 for adults 18 and up and $5 for children 6 to 17 years old. Register online at GreatSwamp.org or call 973-538-3500. For additional information visit the link HERE.
The Great Swamp Watershed Association is designated as an accredited land trust, joining an elite group of just eight land trusts in New Jersey. The Conservation Management Area contains critical wetlands, a freshwater marsh, vernal ponds, forested areas and the Silver Brook, a tributary to the Great Brook and Passaic River. It is home to several state and federally-designated threatened species, including the wood turtle and barred owl.
The Conservation Management Area is a valuable asset to local residents who appreciate the natural beauty of the setting.
