Historic Mortgage RatesMortgage Rates Reach All-Time Low

The Associated Press reported last week that the interest rate on an average 30-year mortgage fell to 3.84%, a percentage point that hasn’t been seen since the 1950s.  Buyers opting for a 15-year mortgage do even better since that rate dropped to 3.07%, another record according to mortgage buyer Freddie Mac.

While many homeowners choose to refinance their homes using today’s low interest rates, the conditions are absolutely ideal for purchasing a home.  “Between the variety of housing offered in our market area, lower home prices than we’ve seen in over a decade, and historically low mortgage rates, the spring market is a perfect time to start home shopping,” says John Turpin, President of Turpin Realtors.

“All of this is also good news for home sellers,” says John Turpin.  “These low interest mortgages drive more buyers into the marketplace, which also benefits sellers.  I would encourage potential buyers and sellers to become an active part of today’s market so they can take advantage of these historically low mortgage rates.”

Handel's Semele at Somerset Hills Performing Arts CenterHandel’s Semele at Somerset Hills Performing Arts Center

Music in the Somerset Hills is presenting Semele, a mythology-based opera by Handel, on Saturday, May 5 at 7PM.  The performance takes place at the Somerset Hills Performing Arts Center, 25 Olcott Avenue in Bernardsville, which is located at Bernardsville High School.

Sure to be a memorable evening, Semele will feature a professional orchestra, soloists and the Somerset Hills Community Chorus.  Tickets are $10 for students and $15 general admission.

Handel’s Semele began as an opera with a false start followed by decades of staying power.  First performed in London’s Convent Garden in 1744 to less-than-rave reviews, it subsequently disappeared until it was revived on various English stages in 1925 and 1954.  Since that time it has been showcased around the world, from Carnegie Hall and The New York City Opera to Beijing’s Poly Theater as part of the Beijing Music Festival, making Semele the first major production of a baroque opera in the People’s Republic of China.

Handel’s musical interpretation takes on a classic Greek myth involving Semele, the princess daughter of Cadmus, King of Thebes. Semele is engaged to marry Athamas, a prince from another kingdom. However, Semele doesn’t want to marry Athamas since she’s in love with Jupiter, King of the Gods. When Jupiter visits Semele in human form, the story takes a dramatic turn…especially when Jupiter’s jealous wife Juno becomes involved.

Living in and around Bernardsville offers many opportunities to enjoy live musical and cultural events such as the performance of Semele.  If you are interested in buying a home in Bernardsville, have questions about Bernardsville real estate, or are thinking about selling your existing home, we are happy to help.  Visit our Bernardsville Office in the heart of Bernardsville at 163 Morristown Road, or call us at call us at 877-788-7746.
