A landmark Bedminster home was built in 1751 by Johannes Moelick, a German farmer and tanner who was later made famous by Andrew D. Mellick Jr.’s 1889 history book titled The Story of An Old Farm. In the early 1900’s the owners of the stone house added a clapboard addition which was brought intact from New Hampshire. Entrance hall walls hand painted by well-known artist Dan Mulligan depicts the story of the property. Beginning with the Indians and the Peapack Brook, it shows Mr. Moelick sighting where the house should be built, the Mill and tanning process, gardens and eventually the house as it is today, ending with the friendly ghost who is supposed to bring good luck. The main floor includes a gracious formal living room with an original corner cupboard and hand blown glass panes, and French doors to the covered porch and garden, a formal dining room and library, all with wood burning fireplaces, a country kitchen, guest room and bath.
