Description

The visionary architect-owners who designed and built this distinctive home carefully positioned it on a tranquil 5.9 acre site to capture an abundance of natural light throughout the day as well as compelling views from every part of the gracious four bedroom, four bath layout. Exceptional millwork and craftsmanship and attention to detail are apparent in everything from oversized windows ideally placed to frame distant views to imaginative color schemes and wood finishes chosen to be in harmony with the surrounding countryside. The use of natural materials in the expansive new bluestone terrace, stone retaining walls, cedar siding and flooring of wood and stone are indigenous to the area, reinforcing the strong indoor-outdoor connection intended by the architects.

A classic exterior employs aspects of the Greek Revival style prevalent in local estates, a design aspect further enhanced by gabled ends and vertically-mullioned windows reminiscent of simple farmhouses dating back to past centuries. The overall sense of proportion and elegance gives this home a unique quality that is at once substantial and welcoming. Inside, custom and classic design elements combine effortlessly to create distinctive living spaces. Originally built in 2003, a variety of upgrades and renovations were installed in 2015.

The chef’s center island kitchen presents honed granite counters, cherry cabinetry, a built-in cherry eating nook and new appliances including a six-burner gas stove. An adjoining multi-faceted space is home to a wall of pantry cabinetry that features a pass-through to the garage to facilitate delivery of groceries and other items from the car. This user-friendly area also boasts a built in desk, mini fridge, wine storage and wet bar all perfectly situated to ease outdoor dining and entertaining on the adjoining delightful covered porch and new bluestone terrace. The open flow of the kitchen continues in the adjacent family room where generously-sized windows capture magical light and views. An elegant formal dining room is graced by impressive pillars and pastoral views. Anchored by a tile surround gas fireplace, the living room spills onto a spacious patio for warm weather gatherings.  Another outstanding amenity on the main floor is a guest bedroom and full bath.

Cleverly situated between the first and second levels is a large, light-filled office space. The second story contains a fabulous master suite offering a private balcony, gas fireplace and well-appointed master bath with dual granite-topped sinks, soaking tub and separate shower.  Wardrobes are easily organized in the walk-in closet with built-ins and hidden storage. Two additional bedrooms, a full bath and laundry room complete the upstairs.

An incredibly spacious walk out lower level provides a recreation room with full bath, numerous storage options as well as a stone room which can be transformed into a future wine cellar.

Form, function, natural light and serene views combine in this unique Roxiticus Valley home located just minutes from major commuting routes, shops, schools, dining, entertainment venues and recreation.

Chester Township, NJ real estate market

About Chester Township

When talking about Chester in southwestern Morris County, you need to distinguish between the Borough of Chester, which is the shopping village, and Chester Township, the surrounding area which is decidedly more rural. At about 1½-square miles, the borough is located at the intersection of Routes 206 and 24 and offers quaint streetscapes lined with one-of-a-kind boutiques, antique shops and restaurants. Chester Township includes 29.8 square miles of farmland, newer residential developments and historic homes.

Incorporated in 1799, over 40%--or 12 square miles--of the township is preserved as open space. There are nature reserves, parks and deed-restricted agricultural property under the state Farmland Preservation Program, which buys the development rights while allowing the farmer to retain title and continue working the land.

The Borough of Chester was incorporated in 1930, and is a separate municipality that shares many services with the township such as a library, first aid squad, fire department, community pool, athletic programs, civic organizations and schools.
