The community festival with the funny name returns to Chatham Borough on Saturday, June 9. The Fishawack Festival, a cultural heritage event, takes place rain or shine from 10am to 4pm throughout the borough. In 1971, Chatham’s Chamber of Commerce created this lively downtown celebration, a tradition that’s since evolved into an area-wide, annual tribute to friendship, charm and community pride. For centuries Chatham has been a welcome stop for travelers and merchants along the Fishawack, the Lenni Lenape Indian’s term for the Passaic River and namesake of the festival. This event includes Chatham merchant sidewalk sales, outdoor dining, hand-made crafts and artwork, show-and-tell displays on everything from honey bees to planting trees, plus fun and games for kids of all ages. The Fishawack Festival hosts a local Art Exhibit at the Library of the Chathams, Craft Vendors, Chatham Jaycee’s Fishawack Run, a Kids’ Fun Zone, Live Entertainment, Pop-Up Entertainment, a Food Court, Shop Chatham, Car Show, Art for Hope Exhibit at Borough Hall, Senior Lounge, Northern Jersey Bloodmobile, Firematics, School Days at Borough Hall, Volunteer Recognition and a Movie Under the Stars at dusk.
