Community Event: Mendham Labor Day Parade and Carnival

A longtime tradition cherished by generations, Mendham’s annual Labor Day Parade kicks off at 10am on Labor Day--Monday, September 3. The viewing stand for the parade route is at the town’s gazebo at East Main Street and Mountain Avenue. Winding along Main Street, the parade ends at Borough Field. Afterwards, enjoy a Hose Competition comprised of local fire departments showing their skills and the large-scale carnival sponsored by The Pastime Club, who has run this event since 1943.

One of the community’s most popular events, the carnival features rides, games and food from mid-morning on Labor Day through about 9 p.m., at which point the mayor will draw the winning ticket for the 50/50 raffle and the fireworks show begins. Admission to the carnival is free.

All members of the Pastime Club work shifts at the carnival in an effort to make this a truly wonderful end-of-summer community event.  The planning for the annual Carnival begins the first week of January each year, and culminates with the 50/50 raffle drawing by the mayor. Tickets are $5, and the prize pool has grown to over $50,000 in recent years. The Club's share of the proceeds is used to fund youth athletic programs in the community.

The Pastime Club is a non-profit organization founded on June 22, 1915. The founding members, believing that some of the life’s best lessons could be learned through participation in athletics, adopted the motto “Progress in Sports.” As a civic and fraternal organization, the club’s mission is to promote youth athletics within the local community.
