The 98th Running of the Far Hills Race Meeting on Saturday, October 20 is one of the fall season’s most thrilling events, and if you’re planning to head to Moorland Farm, here are some things to know:
Buy your admission tickets online and you won’t waste a minute standing in line
Try a VIP experience: Located trackside, The Chairman’s Pavilion has full access to the Paddock and the finish line for viewing the race up close. Mingle with owners, trainers, and riders from some of the best seats in the house.
New in 2018: Pari-Mutuel Wagering. When you place a bet you are not betting against the track, but against everyone who is making that type of wager in a particular race. For example, if you bet a horse to win, your bet goes into the win pool. Based on how much is wagered on each horse to win, their odds will change accordingly. This is called pari-mutuel wagering, from the French term meaning “amongst ourselves.”
Tailgating is a pretty big deal. You may not be tailgating, but take a stroll around to see just how lavish some of the parties can get. Hay bales alongside crystal champagne flutes? Yes and yes.
Consider mass transit. Take an NJ Transit train right to the event, the Far Hills station is right across the street from Moorland Farm which is located at 50 Route 202.
Channel your inner fashionista. Fashion forward outfits, especially those displaying ‘equestrian chic’ are the order of the day. But remember to wear your walking shoes so you can easily explore the fabulous, festive grounds…there is a lot to see and do.

Come hungry. Food Trucks will be available at The Infield including Angry Archie’s, Cubano X-Press, Empanada Guy, Fired Up Flatbread, Good Mood Good Food, Grain & Cane, Maddalena’s Cheese Cake & Catering and Oink & Moo BBQ.
Get ready to shop. The Vendor Village of specialty shops will be on the grounds in case retail therapy is required. Choose from merchandise like jewelry, unique hats, outdoor gear and luxury outerwear.
