In the News: Long Valley

Earlier this year, The New York Times featured Long Valley in their “Living In” feature which profiles towns around the greater metropolitan area. Overwhelmingly positive, the article highlighted the bucolic feeling found in this Morris County municipality which is a census-designated area within Washington Township. It cited Long Valley’s scenic natural beauty, diverse housing and small-town characteristics. The report was summed up well in the headline which reads: “Where does New Jersey feel like the Garden State? In a part of Morris County where you’ll find historic buildings, wooded trails and an eclectic community.”

Well-researched and informative, this feature in the Real Estate section included an interesting historical note:

“The Chesapeake Tavern was once the Long Valley Inn, a hotel and restaurant with roots that go back to 1787. According to the Washington Township Historical Society, when Albert Einstein lived in Princeton, he used to stop by for Sunday chicken dinners.”

Other topics highlighted in the story included an overview of local businesses and restaurants, the “vibe” of the town, its highly-rated public schools, housing prices, commuting times and historical references. There was even a note about how residents appreciate the fact that they can view the night sky full of stars from Long Valley, as well as how farming still plays an important role in the community.
