Mendham Township Elementary School was recently named a 2019 Blue Ribbon School by the United States Department of Education. This national Blue Ribbon award is an outstanding accomplishment and demonstrates the school’s commitment to its students. Nine New Jersey schools earned the distinction this year, and Mendham Township Elementary was the only Morris County school represented.
The 2019 Blue Ribbon designation follows another distinction from five years ago. In 2014, Mendham Township Middle School received a Blue Ribbon award when it was named an Exemplary High Performing School. At the time, Mendham was home to just the 21st public middle school in the state to earn the award and the first-ever public middle school in Morris County.
The National Blue Ribbon School program was established in 1982; in 2019, a total of 362 schools across the country earned the prestigious title. Each school earning the award is either among the highest performing schools in a state or among the highest performing in closing the achievement gap. A ceremony honoring all of the schools, including Mendham Township Elementary School, will be held in Washington, D.C. in November.
