The 2018 Somerset Hills Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) is celebrating its 65th Used Book Sale this summer. An important fundraiser, it typically collects over $25,000 for AAUW scholarships, local libraries and charities. 100% of the money raised after expenses goes to charity, making it a terrific way to recycle used books and to foster camaraderie of fellow book enthusiasts. The book sale takes place at Bernardsville Middle School on Seney Drive.
This year’s book sale dates and times are:
- Thursday, August 2, Noon to 8 pm
- Friday, August 3, Noon to 8 pm
- Saturday, August 4, 9 am to 3 pm
Hardcover and softcover books in the main room are $1.00 each; children’s books vary in price. On Thursday, there will be a 25% premium on books in the main room. Rare and choice books in a separate room are priced individually and are not subject to the first day 25% premium. There is no admission fee. Starting at 9:00 am, admission numbers will be passed out to determine entry order for the long line that always forms on the morning of the first day of the sale.
Since their first meeting of 17 women in 1881, AAUW has been breaking through educational and economic barriers for women and girls. Today, AAUW has more than 170,000 members and supporters and a nationwide community that includes 1,000 branches and 800 college and university partners. AAUW provides networking, advocacy and action that contribute to a more promising future for women and girls. The Somerset Hills Branch is a social as well as a social action organization. General meetings are fun and informative with programs on a wide variety of topics such as travel, health, history, science and culture and are open to the public. There are interest groups for book discussion, bridge, gourmet and Great Decisions.
