A sure sign of spring, the annual Small Fry Fishing Derby on Saturday, April 27 has been a rite of passage from generations of local children since 1962. Chatham Borough and Chatham Township residents age 13 and under can participate in this popular event which runs from 8am to 5pm.
The fishing derby takes place at Kelley’s Pond behind the Milton Avenue Elementary School at 16 Milton Avenue. Fishing derby t-shirts will be available for purchase while supplies last and food will be sold as well.
This annual event is hosted by the Chatham Borough Fire Department, who awards prizes in multiple categories. The fire department purchases hundreds of live trout from a local hatchery to stock the pond, making the day a memorable one for old and young residents.
